Barker-McCurry Runs Personal Best, McCurry Makes Season Debut

 

Monmouth Oregon, May 12— Andrija Barker-McCurry ran a personal best in 1500m Friday night at Western Oregon University with a time of 4:54.50.  She was able to hold back off a fast early pace, and move well on the last lap to finish 4th.  Later in the 5000m Pat McCurry in his outdoor season debut implored a similar tactic before moving up during the second half of the race to finish 2nd in 14:47.

Ulrich Win’s Two Races in Florida

 

Lindsey Ulrich recently won two races in Florida.  Most recently she won a trail 5k at Lovers Key State Park May 20th in 18:48.  A couple of weeks earlier she won the Naples Tropcool 5k with a time of 18:11.  Next up Lindsey will be joining fellow Eastsiders Kelsey Jones and Amy Robillard; along with EOU Alumni Carrie Jones, Kelsi Eisele, and Katlin Cauffman for the Sawtooth Relay in Boise Idaho.

Williams Competes In Willamette Last Chance

 

Salem Oregon, May 18— Sean Williams recently wrapped up his 2006 Outdoor Track season at the Willamette Last Chance Meet.  He finished 5th in the 1500m with a time of 3:56.12.  He raced well but hoping to end his season with a faster time.

McCurry, Gall and Robillard Win At The Great Potato Marathon and Half Marathon

 

Boise Idaho, May 21— Three members of the Eastside Track Club were in action on Sunday  at the Great Potato Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday and all three came away victorious in their respective races.  Pat McCurry won the Men’s Half Marathon in 1:10:44, even with confusion about the course late in the race and using the first few miles to warm-up.  Amy Robillard continued her winning ways taking the honor is the Women’s Half Marathon in 1:22:58.  Competing in the full Marathon Ben Gall crossed the finish line first in 2:51:30.

Williams Finishes 8th In Eugene Challenge Mile

 

Eugene Oregon, May 27— Sean Williams competed in the Eugene Challenge Mile, finishing 8th in the field that included D1 All-Americans, and a World XC competitor.  He was able to with stand the early fast pace for about 1000 before dropping off slightly.  He finished with a time of 4:19.0 to 4:08 for the winner.  However there was confusion as the finish as they had two chip mats about 10 meters apart.  The clock said 4:17 as he crossed the first mat.

Egelus Finishes 10th In Menard Run

 

Wasilla Alaska, June 3— Pat Egelus competed in the Curtis Menard Memorial 5k finishing 10th in 17:19, his best time this year.  The race was won by David Morris the former American record holder in the marathon.  The race also served as the Alaska state championships for 5k, where Egelus finished 9th, as the second place runner was from Dallas, TX.

Eastsiders Part Of Three Winning Teams At Sawtooth Relay

 

Stanley Idaho, June 10— Members of the Eastside Track Club were on three different teams for the Sawtooth Relay and all three won there respective divisions.  Tim Riley and Brian Crowl were on the winning men’s team with other local Boise runners.  Pat McCurry was a late addition to the winning coed team, comprised of runners from his Albertson College team.  The winning women’s team included Eastsiders Lindsey Ulrich, Kelsey Jones, and Amy Robillard who were joined by three EOU alums to round out the team.  Stay tuned for more information when official results are available.

Four Eastsiders Finish In Top 6 At Main St. Mile

 

Boise ID, June 30— Four members of the Eastside Track Club were in action Friday night at the Main Street Mile in Boise Idaho.  On the women’s side Kelsey Jones took top honors in 5:02.  For her victory Kelsey won a free trip to Boulder in August for the  Pearl St. Mile; plus $100 in gift certificates good in downtown Boise.  Andrija Barker-McCurry finished 3rd, and received $25 in downtown dollars.

On the men’s side Pat McCurry used a late surge to finish second in 4:19 after letting the leader get a little too far out of reach. He earned $75 downtown dollars for his effort.  Brian Crowl also competed in the race finishing 6th in 4:33 and came away with $25 downtown dollars.  It was a good evening for Eastsiders coming away with a total of $225 downtown dollars.

Williams Finishes in 4th in Butte to Butte

 

Eugene OR, July 4— Sean Williams was in action on the Tuesday holiday for the 33rd Annual Butte to Butte 10k.  He was able to stay close to the leaders uphill to the mile 1, but let the leaders, which included former Olympian Nick Rogers, get away on the downhill running in 3rd for much of the race.  He let one other runner get passed at around the 5 mile mark and finished 4th in 32:28.  It was a good effort, but was lacking some confidence in his first 10k in nearly 8 years.

Riley, Jones Compete In 29th Utica Boilermaker

 

Utica New York, July 9— Tim Riley and Keley Jones made the trip from Boise Idaho to Utica New York to represent the Eastside Track Club in the 29th annual Utica Boilermaker, one of the best road races in the country.  Competing in the race for the second time Tim Riley finished 36th covering 15k 49:28, just ahead of  former Olympic Champion Gete Wami of Ethiopia the top female finisher.  Making her debut trip to New York Kelsey Jones was the 22nd female across the line and 243rd total with a time of 58:04 for the 15k race.

Anderson Finishes 3rd in 5k, Sam Ulrich Competes In First Race Ever

 

Eugene Oregon, July 19&20— On a hot evening in Eugene Mike Anderson finished 3rd in the 5000m at an all comers meet hosted by the Oregon Track Club.  This was Mike’s first track race in a few years; battling the heat he ran his fastest 5k on any surface in the last several years as well.  The previous night Samuel Ulrich competed in the 60m at the 13 & under all comers meet.  At 14 months he was one of the youngest competing and was a little unsure of what to do at first,  but was able to finish with a little help from his parents.

Jones and McCurry In Top Ten At Pearl St. Mile, Riley Just Off

 

Boulder Colorado, August 17— Three members of the Eastside Track Club competed in the tenth annual Pearl Street Mile in Boulder Colorado.  Kelsey Jones, who won a free trip to the race when by winning the Main Street Mile in Boise, took full advantage the opportunity finishing 9th in 5:20.  The race was won by Luminita Talpos in 4:55.  Pat McCurry and Tim Riley also made the journey to Colorado to compete in the men’s race.  McCurry finished 5th in 4:23 and Riley finished 11th in 4:30.  The men’s race was tight as former Olympian Jason Lunn won the race in 4:16.

McCurry, Anderson 1st and 2nd At Jimmy Driscoll Invite

 

Boise Idaho, August 26— Pat McCurry and Mike Anderson were in action at the 2nd annual Jimmy Driscoll Invitational in Boise, Idaho.  McCurry won the race, named after his late high school coach, for the 2nd time.  His winning time over the 5k course was 16:20.  Anderson followed McCurry across the line in 16:50.  Eastsiders took the top two spots in the race last year as well.

Kelsey Jones was also in action over the weekend competing in the Lost Lake Trail Run in Alaska.  She finished  third on very muddy course, running conservative to avoid an injury as she prepares for a marathon this fall.

Next weekend Eastsiders Pat McCurry, Ben Gall, and Brian Crowl will be competing in the Payette Lake Run, a 30 kilometer race.

Gall, Crowl 2nd and 3rd In Payette Lake Run 30k

 

McCall Idaho, September 3rd— Two members of the Eastside Track Club were in action over the holiday weekend.  Ben Gall and Brian Crowl competed in the Payette Lake Run 30k race.  They ran together in those positions through 14 miles before separating on the hilly course at an altitude of 5000 ft.  Gall crossed the finish line in 1:47:51.3, just under 1:00 behind the winner.  Crowl was next across the finish line in 1:52:06.2.  Both runners were using this race in preparation for a fall marathon.

Williams Finishes 5th At NNU Invite

 

Nampa Idaho September 9— Four of the top 5 from the 2005 meet returned to the NNU Invite and for the second year in a row SeanWilliams finished 5th in 19:01 over the 6k  course.  Sean was able to get through the mile close to the leaders before losing contact on the 2nd loop.  He held his position and close well on the final loop making up ground on the runners in front of him.

Crowl Finishes Third In Run For The Animals

 

Boise Idaho, September 16— Brian Crowl was in action for the Eastside Track Club at the Run For The Animals 5k, a benefit for the zoo and the entire race was contested on the grounds.  Brian took the race out quick with a 4:50 first mile and maintained the lead past two miles.  He slipped to 3rd on the final loop of the race and finished in 15:38.  The race was won in course record time of 15:28.

Schroeder Wins Mount Angel Oktoberfest 10k

 

Mount Angel Oregon, September 16— Ian Schroeder was in action for the Eastside Track Club this past weekend at the Oktoberfest 10k.  He won the race in 33:06, with new Eastside member Jake Laminack finishing 2nd in 34:44.

McCurry, Jones Represent Team USA In Toronto

 

Toronto Canada, September 24— Pat McCurry and Kelsey Jones represented the United States as members of Team America Elite for the Scotiabank International team challenge that was Part of the Toronto Waterfront Marathon.  For the challenge two athletes for each gender were chosen from the US, Mexico, Canada, and Great Britain.  Conditions were brutal for the race with humidity of 94% and winds of 40 k/hr at the start.  Conditions got worse as the wind had picked up by the end of the race.  The conditions triggered a chronic side injury by 10k for McCurry.  He battled through it and cramps that locked his calve at 22 miles to finish 41st overall in 2:52:19.  Kelsey Jones made her marathon debut finishing 92nd overall and was the 12th female with a time of 3:09:18.  This was an impressive run for Kelsey to run her first marathon in these conditions.  Team America consisting of McCurry, Jones, Art Siemers and Paula Morrison finished 3rd in the International Challenge behind behind Mexico and Great Britain.

Eastsiders Turn In Good Performances At Willamette Invite

 

Salem Oregon, September 30— The fields were strong and conditions were ideal at the Willamette Invite.  The women’s team finished 9th out of 20 teams.  Kelsey Jones finished 30th in 18:23, just 1 week after making her marathon debut.  She was running in the top 10, before fading the last 1k, due to tired legs.  Andrija Barker-McCurry ran a great race to finish 32 in a personal best time of 18:24.  Shannon Edwards and Lindsey Ulrich were close behind finishing in 42nd and 52nd in 18:40 and 18:49 respectively.  Katlin Cauffman was the 5th runner finishing 107th in 20:09.

The men’s were unable to field a complete team, but they ran well.  Sean Williams ran a 29 second lifetime best  to finish 9th in 24:41.  Mike Anderson also ran a lifetime best finishing 70th in 25:53.  Jacob Haas finished 90th in 26:12, and Ian Schroeder fought through being sick to finish 122nd in 26:42.

Gall Finishes 13th In Portland Marathon

 

Portland Oregon, October 1— Ben Gall ran a personal best at the Portland Marathon on Sunday; finishing 13th in 2:38:14.  Ben passed through halfway in 1:15:53, and 20 miles in 1:57:47.

Williams Wins Race At Eastern Oregon University

 

La Grande Oregon, October 7— Sean Williams won his first cross country race ever this past weekend in La Grande.  It was a cool, windy morning and the course was rough.  He ran a smart and patient race to be first across the finish line in 26:14.  There was confusion on the course with about 2k remaining as the current leader was sent the wrong way; they tried to send Sean the wrong way.  However after some confusion he ignored the marshal and followed the correct route.  Before the mix he had cut the leader’s 15 second lead in half on the during the last loop.

Three Eastsiders Run Well In Reno

 

Reno Nevada, October 14— Eastsiders Pat McCurry, Andrija Barker-McCurry, and Mike Anderson made the journey to Reno to compete in the Meridian Gold Race For Education.  Pat and Andrija both competed in the 5k, while Mike opted for the 10k.  Pat finished second in 15:36, earning $300 for his effort.  Andrija was the 4th female finishing in 18:47.  In the 10k Mike was 5th in 34:07.

Crowl Wins In Boise, Williams 2nd In Corvallis, Ulrich 4th In Lewiston Over Weekend

 

Boise Idaho— Brian Crowl toed the line in Boise for the Barber To Boise 10k.  He ran an even race taking the lead at three miles and used well placed surges to maintain his lead to win by 4 seconds in 32:22.  This was a good tune up for his marathon in two weeks.

 

Corvallis Oregon— Sean Williams was in action Saturday at the Oregon State University Beaver Classic.  He was running with the leaders around 2 miles when he let Jake Stout, the eventual winner, get a 30m lead.  Sean held that gap and pulled away from the rest of the runners finishing in 25:11.  The winning time was 25:04.

 

Lewiston Idaho— Lindsey Ulrich was also in action at the Lewis-Clark State Open.  She covered the 5k in 18:33 finishing 4th.  This was Lindsey’s best cross country time of the season.

Robillard Runs Well At Chicago Marathon

 

Chicago Illinois, October 22— Amy Robillard made her marathon debut in Chicago on Sunday.  She was the 109th female finisher out of 14,720, with a time of 2:59:34.  She was also the 90th American female to finish the race.  This was a good effort considering she suffered a knee injury a few weeks ago and was forced to cross train 3-4 days a week and run 3-4 days a week.

Gall Wins Monster Dash 5k In Nampa, Idaho

 

Nampa Idaho, October 28— Ben Gall donned his new Eastside TC uniform for the first time at the Monster Dash 5k in Nampa Idaho.  He broke it nice as he won the brand new race in 15:55.  This was a different race as the first two miles were on pavement and the final mile plus was on grass.  Ben and Brian Crowl will be in action November 5th for the City Of Trees Half Marathon in Boise Idaho.

Eastsiders Finish 1-2-3 In City Of Trees Half Marathon, Cauffman 3rd In Women’s

 

Boise Idaho, November 5— Ben Gall, Pat McCurry, and Brian Crowl finished 1-2-3 in the City Of Trees Half Marathon  on Sunday.  Pat paced Ben throughout the race and both finished in 1:12:30 despite running a extra out and back that was for the marathon course.  Brian finished 3rd in 1:13:29.  In the women’s race Katlin Cauffman finished 3rd in 1:33:30.

Williams 5th In Pier Park Cross Country Race

 

Portland Oregon, November 12— Sean Williams competed in the 4th and final race of the 2006 Fit Right NW Puma XC series at Pier Park.  Fighting a head cold, he made the mistake of letting the lead pack get away early and was unable to make up any ground on the windy and  hilly course.  He ran in alone in 5th nearly the entire race finishing the  8k race in 26:28.

Eastsiders Compete In Turkey Trot Relay

 

Boise Idaho, November 18— Eastsiders Mike Anderson, Brian Crowl, Tracy Harris and Pat McCurry competed in the annual Turkey Trot 4 x 2 Mile Relay.  This is a different type of event, where each team predicts the time that they will run; which ever team is the closest wins.  There are no watches, splits, or pacing devices allowed as the runners must go entirely off of pace.  The Eastside team was the first across the finish line, however there time of 39:00 was 18 seconds off their predicted time of 39:18.  The teams are given splits in the results; they are as follows.  Anderson ran 9:46, Crowl ran 9:40, Harris ran 10:18 and McCurry ran 9:34.

Eastsiders Sweep Top Spots On Thanksgiving Day

 

Ontario Oregon, November 23— Five Eastsiders were in action on Thanksgiving Day at an annual Turkey Trot in Ontario Oregon.  The course covered many terrains as it went from road to grass to trail and back to road over the 5k course.  Pat McCurry took top honors, winning in 15:47, Tim Riley was second in 16:45, and Dallas Kinch was third in 17:50.  On the women’s side Kelsey Jones and Andrija Barker-McCurry finished first and second (fifth and sixth overall).  Kelsey finished in 18:54 with Andrija close behind in 18:56.
