2nd Annual Werst Race Saturday May 31, 2008 La Grande, OR— Birney Park 9:00 A.M. |

The race starts near Birney Park, located just South of the Eastern Oregon University Campus, to the top of Morgan Lake Road. It is open to runners, cyclists, joggers, and walkers. The distance will be 2.35 miles.
All proceeds from this event will go to help former EOU All-American runner and professional cyclist Jason Werst with medical expenses after his recent battle with leukemia. Jason is doing well and will be participating in this years race.

Course: This is a VERY challenging, climbing course. It begins on pavement at the corner of 2nd Ave and B St., just west of Birney Park, on a gradual slope. It is paved for about a half mile of moderate ups and downs before it turns to gravel/dirt and begins a very steep climb to the finish. The Distance will be 2.35 miles.
Prizes: Awards will be given to the grand champion in both men’s and women’s divisions, this being the person who completes the course in the fastest time – either cyclist or runner. The top three male/female runners, and top three male/female cyclists in both open and master’s divisions (40+) will receive awards as well. However, the real prize for everyone is knowing you conquered this climb and contributed to a great cause!
Transportation: We will have a shuttle to bring participants back to the park after the race concludes for awards. We would like people to use the shuttle too avoid too much traffic/congestion on the road and create a safety hazard.
Entries: Entry fee is $20.00 per person, or $25.00 per person with a t-shirt. Race day registration will be available from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. the morning of the race at Birney Park.
For those who would like to contribute and help Jason and Jessica out, but are unable to do the race, please send a flat donation to the address on the entry form or, find someone who can do the race and ‘sponsor’ them by paying their fee or making a larger donation tied to their entry.

Directions To EOU:
From I-84 West bound:
· Take Exit 265, the first La Grande exit. · Turn left onto US Highway 30. Turn left on Gekeler Lane, next to the UPS terminal. · Continue on Gekeler Lane until you reach 6th Street. · Turn right onto 6th Street and continue until you reach “G” Street. · Turn right on “G” Street. · Turn right on "G" Avenue into Quinn Coliseum Parking Lot .
From I-84 East bound:
· Take Exit 259; proceed on US Highway 30 into La Grande. · Turn right at the second set of lights - onto Fourth Street. · Continue on Fourth Street until you reach the "G" Avenue. · Turn left on "G" Avenue and continue East until you reach Quinn Coliseum Parking Lot.
Birney Park:
· Birney Park is Located on Gekeler Ave. across from the State Building. From Quinn Coliseum head turn left on 6th, then Left on Gekeler (Which is also called C Ave). The park will be approximately 1 block east of 6th St. (It will be marked)
· Parking will be available at the park or outside of Community Stadium located on 6th street, less than a quarter mile from the park.
